Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI/ILFA) supports the government programs to build an integrated port – integrating the container port with fishery products processing centre – in East Indonesia. This program is expected to promote the industry growth in East Indonesia as central of fishery products.
Chairman of ALFI/ILFA said that as organization of logistics and forwarding companies, ALFI would totally support this program as this would also integrate with logistics centre.
He said, East Indonesia has very potential natural resources, especially fishery products. This fishery product is not only for domestic consumption, but also for export.
“Logistics infrastructure and facilities are very necessary to make this fishery products go national and international. These infrastructure and facilities are also essential for an efficient logistics. In addition, this will make these fishery products more competitive in global market,†Yukki said in press statement this morning (Tuesday, February 16).
This integrated port and logistics infrastructure and facilities will also support the logistics ecosystem and new economy resources at the zone.
“Hence, ALFI absolutely supports the concept of container port and fishery products processing centre port integrated with industry and logistics centre at East Indonesia,†he said.
Yukki, who is also Chairman of Asean Federation of Forwarders Association (AFFA), said that the target of Ministry of Fishery and Maritime Affairs (KKP) to establish fishery products processing facilities in East Indonesia is very realistic.
KKP has set up target to build 55 fishery processing facilities which is integrated with fishery ports. This is to realize KKP mission to make East Indonesia as centre of national fishery product supply.
In building those fishery ports, KKP will cooperate with Ministry of Transportation.
Earlier, Minister of KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono explained that this integrated port development is meant to integrate the up- and down-stream fishery product processing.
“In addition, this program will encourage the establishment of more than four shipbuilding industries around it and will absorb thousands of employees,†Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said, adding that it will create jobs for more than 20,000 fishermen or ship crews, 500 port workers, 2,000 fishery sellers, and 11,000 workers at fishery manufacturers,†he said.
He explained that the Maluku fishery sources (WPPNRI Maluku) is very potential. “In 2019, there were more than 2.3 million tons that has not been optimized yet. Assuming that we can optimize 25% of it, we can handle more than 579 thousand tons,†he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Investment Coordinating Board BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia expects this integrated port development will be realized soon. Bahlil is so optimistic that this infrastructure and facilities will trigger new economy resources at Maluku Province, both at the sea and land sides.
“Mr. President has expects that all fishery products processing is done at the land side as this will encourage to create new economy, create new jobs, and build new economy ecosystem at the land side. In addition, this will create new income source both for local government (APBD) and central government,†he said.
